The Australian Ice Hockey League have announced that the Brisbane Lightning will join the league from 2023 after being granted a full licence. The Lightning had been operating under a provisional license during the 2022 AIHL season which saw them compete in a number of exhibition games. During the season they played 15 exhibition games, winning seven.
