The Australian Ice Hockey League (AIHL) have announced that the Perth Thunder will return to the AIHL for the 2023 season. The Thunder had to withdraw from the 2022 competition due to ongoing travel restrictions. As a replacement for the 2022 season the team competed in four exhibition games, winning three against the Melbourne Ice and losing one to the Melbourne Mustangs.
