2023 Women’s U18 World Championships: Australia defeats Mexico

The Australian women’s national under-18 team have defeated Mexico 5–2 in their third game of the 2023 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 Women’s World Championship Division II Group A tournament. Australia’s goals were scored by Hannah Cryan, her first in international competition, Natasha Dube, who picked up two for the second game in a row, Courtney Mahoney and Phoebe Roberts. The IIHF award for best Australian player of the match was given to defender Lily Roberts while the Australian team named Hannah Cryan their best offensive player of the game, Natasha Dube their best defensive player and the hardest worker award went to Phoebe Roberts.

In the other games of the day Latvia defeated the Netherlands 2–1 in overtime and Great Britain beat Turkey 3–1. At the end of the third day Australia remains at the top of the standings and have extended their lead to two points over the second placed Latvia. The teams have a rest day today and return tomorrow where Australia will take on Latvia for their fourth game. The two teams last met at the 2022 World Championships where Australia won 2–1 in the qualifying round of the Division II tournament.
