The Australian women’s national team have lost 0–1 to the Belgium women’s national team in their second game of the 2023 IIHF Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship Division II Group B tournament in Cape Town, South Africa. The Australian team put 48 shots on goal compared to Belgium’s twelve but failed to get past their goaltender Nina van Orshaegen. The IIHF award for best Australian player of the match and the team’s hardest worker award was given to defender Katrina Rapchuk.
In the other games since the last update Belgium defeated Croatia 10–1 in Tuesday’s only match and New Zealand beat South Africa 5–1 in Wednesday’s other game. At the end of third day Australia has dropped to third on the standings, trailing the first placed New Zealand by three points. Australia takes on Croatia today for their third game of the tournament. The two teams last met at the 2022 World Championships where Australia won 13–0.
