2024 Men’s U20 World Championships: Australia defeats Chinese Taipei

The Australian men’s national under-20 team have defeated the Chinese Taipei men’s national under-20 team 4–1 in their second game of the 2024 IIHF Ice Hockey U20 World Championship Division II Group B tournament in Belgrade, Serbia. Dmitri Kuleshov led the scoring for Australia with two goals, followed by Justin Dixon and Daniel O’Handley with one each. The IIHF award for best Australian player of the match was given to forward Braden Costa.

In the other games of the day Romania defeated Iceland 2–1 and Serbia shutout Belgium 4–0. At the end of the second round Australia has moved up to fifth on the standings, pushing Chinese Taipei down to sixth. Romania meanwhile now leads the tournament with five points, moving up from third, and Serbia sits in second place, up from fourth. Iceland drops from first to third and Belgium from second to fourth. The teams have a rest day today and return on 17 January where Australia will take on Belgium for their third game of the competition. The two teams last met at the 2017 World Championships where Belgium won 5–1.
