2024 Men’s U18 World Championships: Australia loses opener to China

The Australian men’s national under-18 team have lost 3–6 to the Chinese men’s national under-18 team in their opening game of the 2024 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 World Championship Division II Group B tournament in Puigcerda, Spain. Australia’s goals were scored by Bodie Jerome, Ivan Kuleshov, and Lachlan Sucher. The IIHF award for best Australian player of the match was given to forward Bodie Jerome.

In the other games of the day Bulgaria defeated Israel 7–6 and Spain shutout Chinese Taipei 6–0. At the end of the first round Australia sits fifth on the standings while Spain leads with three points. Australia takes on Israel today for their second game of the tournament. The two teams last met at the 2016 World Championships where Australia won 4–3.
