Melbourne Mustangs announce six new signings and three re-signings

The Melbourne Mustangs have announced the signing of Matheus Baldwin, Rowan Barrett, Tristan Fraser, Rafael Lakandula, Harrison Paraskevis, and Harvey Rigg for the 2024 Australian Ice Hockey League season. Additionally, the club announced the re-signing of Matt Armstrong, Artem Astafiev, and Stephen Belic.

Forward Matt Armstrong played four games for the Mustangs in 2023, scoring six goals and three assists. Since making his league debut in 2010 he has competed in 254 AIHL games and recorded 429 points.

Forward Artem Astafiev (IHV profile) spent 2023 playing for the Melbourne Jets 17U in Ice Hockey Victoria’s 17U League where he recorded 13 goals and eight assists from 16 games. The 2024 season will be Astafiyev’s second withe Mustangs’ junior squad.

Forward Matheus Baldwin (IHV profile) spent 2023 playing for the iceHQ Ducks 17U in Ice Hockey Victoria’s 17U League where he scored five goals and five assists from 14 games.

Defender Rowan Barrett (IHV profile) spent 2023 playing for the iceHQ Ducks 17U in Ice Hockey Victoria’s 17U League where he recorded three assists in his 15 games.

Defender Stephen Belic played 16 games for the Mustangs in 2023, recording four assists. Since making his league debut in 2011 he has competed in 160 AIHL games and recorded 24 points.

Defender Tristan Fraser (IHV profile) spent 2023 playing for the iceHQ Ducks 17U in Ice Hockey Victoria’s 17U League where he recorded a goal and five assists from 17 games. During the off-season he joined the Melbourne Glaciers to compete in the Australian Junior Ice Hockey League.

Forward Rafael Lakandula (IHV profile) spent 2023 playing for the Docklands Ice Wolves 17U in Ice Hockey Victoria’s 17U League where he scored four goals and five assists in his 17 games. During the off-season he joined the Melbourne Glaciers to compete in the Australian Junior Ice Hockey League.

Goaltender Harrison Paraskevis (IHV profile) spent 2023 playing in Ice Hockey Victoria’s 17U League and 15U League. Paraskevis primarily spent the season playing for the iceHQ Ducks 17U where he recorded a 0.829 save percentage and a 4.13 goals against average from 16 games. He also spent a further five games with the Melbourne Jets 17U, posting a 0.867 save percentage. In the 15U League Paraskevis played two games for the iceHQ Ducks 15U, one as a goaltender and one as a skater.

Forward Harvey Rigg (IHV profile) spent 2023 playing for the iceHQ Ducks 17U in Ice Hockey Victoria’s 17U League where he scored nine goals and three assists from 16 games.
