The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) have published their 2024 World Rankings for the senior men’s national team program which sees Australia retain their place at 35th overall. The World Ranking is based on the performance of the last four World Championships and the latest Winter Olympics tournament. It however also makes allowances for countries who have been unable to participate, such as Belarus and Russia which are both currently expelled from IIHF competition. In 2024, 55 countries and one region participated in the World Championships with the Czech Republic claiming gold in the Championship division. Canada, who finished the tournament in fourth, retained their number one ranking. In the last ten years, Australia’s best ranking as been 33rd in 2017 and 2021 and their lowest was 36th in 2015, 2016, 2018, and 2022.
