2025 Men’s U18 World Championships: Australia defeats Chinese Taipei and finishes second

The Australian men’s national under-18 team have defeated the Chinese Taipei men’s national under-18 team 4–3 following overtime in their final game of the 2025 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 World Championship Division II Group B tournament in Sofia, Bulgaria. Jed Lake led the scoring for Australia with three goals, followed by Logan Brodie with one goal. The IIHF award for best Australian player of the match was given to forward Jed Lake, his second player of the match award for the tournament. The result is an improvement compared to the last meeting between the two teams in 2024 where Australia lost 4–5.

In the other games of the day, Belgium defeated Bulgaria 8–1 and Spain beat Serbia 4–3. Australia finishes the tournament in second place with nine points from five games. Spain finishes in first and earns promotion to Division II Group A, while Bulgaria comes in last and is relegated to Division III Group A. The IIHF award for the tournament’s best forward was presented to Jed Lake, while the award for best Australian player of the tournament was given to goaltender Thomas Papas.
