2019 U18 World Championships: Australia lose to Serbia

The Australian men’s national under-18 team have lost 4-8 to Serbia in their opening game of the 2019 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 World Championship Division II Group B. In other games of the day the Netherlands beat Belgium 4-2 and China defeated Croatia 4-1. After the first round Australia sit last on the standings while Serbia leads the competition. Australia take on the Netherlands today for their second game of the tournament.

2017 U18 World Championship: Australia promoted

The Australian men’s national under-18 team have won their final game of the 2017 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 World Championship Division II Group B tournament, defeating Serbia 4-1. Declan Bronte was named best Australian player of the match and Tyrone Bronte was named best Australian player of the tournament. In addition James Downie was named best goaltender of the tournament. In other games of the day Spain defeated the Netherlands 5-2 and Iceland beat Belgium 3-2. Australia finish the tournament in first place and are promoted to Division II Group A for 2018. It is the second promotion in a row for the team after being promoted from Division III Group A in 2016. Belgium, who finished in last place, are relegated to Division III Group A for 2018.

Australia U18 lose to Serbia

The Australian men’s under-18 team have lost their final game of the 2015 IIHF U18 World Championship Division II Group B tournament, losing 1-6 to Serbia. Mitchell Henning was named best Australian player of the game and Lynden Lodge was awarded best Australian player of the tournament. In other games of the day Romania defeated Spain 4-3 in overtime and Belgium beat China 7-2. Australia finish the tournament in last place and are relegated to Division III Group A for 2016, while Romania finished in first place and are promoted to Division II Group A.
