The Sydney Bears have appointed Vladimir Rubes to the position of head coach, replacing Tyler Huberty who had been in the role since April 2024. Rubes previously served as the Bears’ head coach from 2001 to 2015, winning two Goodall Cups, and as the Sydney Ice Dogs head coach in 2016. He is also a former head coach of the Australian men’s senior and under-18 national teams.

Huberty departs the club with a record of 20 wins from 24 games. At the time of his departure the Sydney Bears are leading both the Hellyer Conference and the league overall and were the first team to qualify for the upcoming 2024 Goodall Cup playoffs.
