Melbourne Mustangs 2018 roster

The Melbourne Mustangs have released their roster for the upcoming 2018 season.

New to the team are Matthew Anderson, Bradley Apps (Canterbury Red Devils), Ben Davies (Guildford Flames), Andrew Erzen (Demons IHC), Brett Ferguson (Guildford Flames), Kahu Joyce (Botany Swarm), Michael McDowell (Brave IHC), Petri Pitkänen, Charles-Olivier Roussel (Anglet Hormadi) and Aleksi Toivonen (CBR Brave)

While players dropped for the roster include Matt Beattie, Andrew Belic, Fraser Carson, David Foster, Jack Hayes, Damian Holland, Anton Kokkonen, James Kruger, Maxime Langelier-Parent, Corey Stringer, Byron Tschuma and Tom Voller

– The Mustangs have announced the signing of Welsh forward Ben Davies for the 2018 season. Davies has spent the 2017-18 season playing for the Guildford Flames of the Elite Ice Hockey League where he currently has 25 points from 56 games. For more information see the announcement from the club

– The Mustangs have announced the re-signing of Patrick O’Kane for the 2018 season. O’Kane first joined the Mustangs in 2013 and has since recorded 212 points in 140 games.
– The Mustangs also announced the signing of former CBR Brave goaltender Aleksi Toivonen. After playing three seasons with the Brave Toivonen was released in favour of an import goaltender. During the 2017-18 season Toivonen has been playing for Paimion Haka in 2. Divisioona.

– The Mustangs have announced the signing of Canadian forward Brett Ferguson for the 2018 season. Ferguson has spent the 2017-18 season playing for the Guildford Flames in the Elite Ice Hockey League where he currently has 56 points from 48 games. – The Ice and Mustangs will compete in an exhibition game at the O’Brien Group Arena on 7 April as part of their pre-season warm up.
– The following week the Ice, Mustangs, Adrenaline and Brave will take part in a hockey festival at the O’Brien Group Arena. The festival will run on 14 and 15 April and feature eight games.

Melbourne Mustangs
– The Mustangs have announced the signing of Canadian defenceman Charles-Olivier Roussel for the upcoming 2018 season. Roussell has spent the 2017-18 season playing for Anglet Hormadi Élite in the French Division 1 and Thetford Assurancia in the Ligue Nord-Américaine de Hockey. Roussel was drafted by the Nashville Predators in the second round of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, however only managed game time in the American Hockey League and ECHL. The Kodiak Group have joined the Mustangs as their new naming rights sponsor for the next two seasons. The Kodiak Group replaces The James Hotel who held the naming rights in 2017. For more information see the announcement from the club

Newcastle Northstars
– The Northstars have signed defenceman Rob Haselhurst for the upcoming 2018 season. Haselhurst has spent the last five seasons playing for the Perth Thunder where he has recorded 81 points in 120 games.

Melbourne Ice
– The Ice have announced the signing of goaltender James Downie for the 2018 season. Downie has spent the last three seasons playing for the Sydney Bears and is currently in North America playing for playing for Meijer AAA Hockey. In the AIHL Downie currently has a save percentage of 0.844 from 17 games. For more information see the announcement from the club.

Melbourne Mustangs
– The Mustangs have announced the signing of Maxime Langelier-Parent as head coach for the upcoming 2018 season. Langelier-Parent joined the club last season as an import player, recording 36 points in 18 games, and also served as an assistant coach for part of the season while out with injury. Langelier-Parent replaces Michael Flaherty who served as head coach during the 2016 and 2017 seasons. For more information see the announcement from the club.

– The Mustangs have announced that Michael Flaherty will not return to the position of head coach for the 2018 season. Flaherty served as head coach during the 2016 and 2017 seasons and was an assistant in 2015. His replacement and the new coaching lineup is expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
