Reach Rebels win the 2016 ECSL Playoffs

The Reach Rebels have been awarded the 2016 East Coast Super League Championship following the forfeit of the Sydney Sting. The league ruled that the Sting had fielded an ineligible player in Game 2 of the grand final series, resulting in the Game 3 decider being cancelled. The Rebels claim their third championship title, having last won in 2014.

2016 ECSL Playoffs: Grand Final Series

The grand final series of the 2016 East Coast Super League playoffs is currently tied after two games with the decider to played at a yet to be confirmed date. The Rebels opened the series with a 4-2 win in Game 1, scoring four unanswered goals in the second and third periods before the Sting got two back in the third. In Game 2 the scores remained even with neither team moving more then one goal ahead at any given time forcing the game into overtime. David Jeremy scored the game winning goal for the Sting in the first overtime period to tie the series at one game apiece.

2016 ECSL Playoffs: Semifinals

The semifinals of the 2016 East Coast Super League playoffs have finished with the Reach Rebels and Sydney Sting advancing to the grand final series which kick off next weekend. The semifinals are a two game series with the winner being determined on a cumulative aggregate format. In Semifinal A the Rebels and Bombers split the series at one game apiece, with the Rebels advancing 4-3 on aggregate. In Semifinal B the Sting came back from a four goal deficit after Game 1 to defeat the North Stars 10-6 on aggregate.

2016 ECSL season: Round 26

Round 26 of the 2016 East Coast Super League season has finished with wins for the Reach Rebels and Sydney Sting. The Rebels return to the top of the standings and claim the 2016 regular season title, their third in a row. Next week the 2016 ECSL playoffs get underway with the best-of-two game semifinals. The first placed Rebels will take on the fourth placed Bombers in Canterbury and Penrith, while the second placed North Stars take on the third placed Sting in Baulkham Hills and Penrith.

2016 ECSL season: Round 25

Round 25 of the 2016 East Coast Super League season has finished with wins for the Newcastle North Stars and Sydney Sting. The North Stars move back to the top of the standings, the first time since Round 5. They are now one point clear of the second placed Rebels who still have one game left to play in the regular season. Next week sees the final round of the 2016 regular season with the Raptors hosting the Rebels at the Sydney Ice Arena and the Bombers taking on the Sting in Canterbury.

2016 ECSL season: Round 20 and All Star Game

Round 20 of the 2016 East Coast Super League season has finished with wins for the Sydney Sting and Newcastle North Stars. The Rebels remain on top of the standings, four points clear of the second placed North Stars. Next week the Penrith Ice Palace hosts both games of the round with the Raptors taking on the North Stars and the Sting come up against the Bombers.

This weekend the ECSL also hosted their 2016 All Star Charity Game at the Canterbury Olympic Ice Rink. This years theme is Marvel’s Captain America and Iron Man and the chosen charity is beyondblue. The Iron Man All Stars went on to win the match defeating the Captain America All Stars 5-3.
