2017 U18 World Championship: Australia promoted

The Australian men’s national under-18 team have won their final game of the 2017 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 World Championship Division II Group B tournament, defeating Serbia 4-1. Declan Bronte was named best Australian player of the match and Tyrone Bronte was named best Australian player of the tournament. In addition James Downie was named best goaltender of the tournament. In other games of the day Spain defeated the Netherlands 5-2 and Iceland beat Belgium 3-2. Australia finish the tournament in first place and are promoted to Division II Group A for 2018. It is the second promotion in a row for the team after being promoted from Division III Group A in 2016. Belgium, who finished in last place, are relegated to Division III Group A for 2018.

2017 U18 World Championship: Australia lose to the Netherlands

The Australian men’s national under-18 team have lost their first game of the 2017 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 World Championship Division II Group B tournament, losing to the Netherlands 1-2. Forward Michael Riley was named best Australian player of the match after scoring the teams only goal. In other games of the day Spain defeated Iceland 7-0 and Serbia beat Belgium 3-1. After the end of the fourth round Australia move back into second place on the standings, trailing Spain on goal difference. Australia take on Serbia today in their final game of the tournament.

2017 U18 World Championship: Australia defeat Spain

The Australian men’s national under-18 team have won their third game of the 2017 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 World Championship Division II Group B tournament, defeating Spain 4-1. Goaltender James Downie was named best Australian player of the match after saving 29 of 30 shots on goal. In other games of the day the Netherlands defeated Belgium 5-2 and Serbia beat Iceland 4-2. After the end of the third round Australia move into first place on the standings, leading the Netherlands, Spain and Serbia by three points. The teams have rest day today before returning on Saturday where Australia take on the Netherlands.

Forward Findlay Wood was named best Australian player of the match after scoring four goals. In other games of the day the Netherlands defeated Iceland 5-1 and Spain beat Serbia 4-3. After the end of the second round Australia sit in second place on the standings, trailing Spain on number of goals scored. The teams have rest day today before returning on Thursday where Australia take on Spain.

The Australian men’s national under-18 team have won their opening game of the 2017 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 World Championship Division II Group B tournament, defeating Iceland 5-2. Defenceman Arthur Wang was named best Australian player of the match. In other games of the day Spain defeated Belgium 7-1 and Serbia beat the Netherlands 3-2. After the end of the first round Australia sit in second place on the standings, trailing Spain on goal difference. Australia take on Belgium today in their second game of the tournament. The tournament, which was originally scheduled to take place in Novi Sad, had to be moved to Belgrade due to problems with the cooling system.

Australian U18 lose to IK Oskarshamn J18

The Australian men’s under-18 team have lost to IK Oskarshamn J18 3-4 following a shootout in an exhibition game yesterday in Sweden. The team is currently in Sweden on a training camp before the start of the 2017 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 World Championship Division II Group B tournament in Novi Sad, Serbia which begins on 13 March.

Australian U18 defeat Mjölby HC J18

The Australian men’s under-18 team have defeated Mjölby HC J18 in an exhibition game yesterday in Sweden. The Australian’s trailed at the end of the first period 0-1, however they responded in the second with a goal from Yannic Lodge, assisted by Aiden Sillato and Andrew Chen. At the end of regulation time the score was locked at 2-2 with Findlay Wood, assisted by Darcy Flanagan, scoring the Australian’s second. Australia won the game after four rounds of shootout with the only goal scored by Jake Riley. The team is currently in Sweden on a training camp before the start of the 2017 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 World Championship Division II Group B tournament in Novi Sad, Serbia which begins on 13 March.

The Australian men’s under-18 team have lost to Tranås AIF J20 0-12 in an exhibition game yesterday in Sweden. The team is currently in Sweden on a training camp before the start of the 2017 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 World Championship Division II Group B tournament in Novi Sad, Serbia which begins on 13 March.
