2019 U18 World Championships: Australia lose to Croatia and finish fifth

The Australian men’s national under-18 team have lost 5-1 to Croatia in their final game of the 2019 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 World Championship Division II Group B. In other games of the day the China beat the Netherlands 3-2 and Serbia defeated Belgium 12-2. Australia finish the tournament in fifth place and will remain in Division II Group B for 2020. Serbia finishes the tournament in first place and gains promotion to Division II Group A, while Belgium finishes last and is relegated to Division III Group A.

The Australian men’s national under-18 team have defeated Belgium 4-2 in their fourth game of the 2019 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 World Championship Division II Group B. In other games of the day the Netherlands beat Croatia 3-2 and Serbia defeated China 6-1. After the end of fourth round Australia remain in fifth place on the standings while the Netherlands have moved up into first place. Australia take on Croatia today in their final match of the tournament. The two teams last met in 2008 at the World Championship Division II Group A tournament where Croatia won 6-1.

In other games of the day Croatia beat Belgium 7-2 and the Netherlands defeated Serbia 2-1 in overtime. After the end of third round Australia remain in fifth place on the standings while China has moved up into first place. The teams have a rest day today and return on Saturday where Australia will take on Belgium. The two teams last met in 2017 at the World Championship Division II Group B tournament where Australia won 5-1.

The Australian men’s national under-18 team have defeated HA74 J18 8-1 in an exhibition game in Sweden. The Australian men’s national under-18 team have won their exhibition game 4-1 against Tranås AIF J18. Connor Schultz picked up three goals and Zachery Gumm recorded one. Australian men’s U18 roster for 2019 World Championships

Ice Hockey Australia (IHA) have released the roster of the Australian men’s under-18 national team for the upcoming 2019 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 World Championship Division II Group B tournament. The competition will take place from 25 to 31 March in Belgrade, Serbia with Australia competing against Belgium, China, Croatia, the Netherlands and Serbia.
