The Newcastle Northstars have announced that head coach John Kennedy will join the roster for tonight’s game against the Sydney Ice Dogs in Sydney. Kennedy played only a single game for the club during the 2018 season, picking up two assists. For more information see the announcement from the club.
The Newcastle Northstars have signed John Kennedy as head coach for the 2019 season. Kennedy’s signing as head coach replaces the Northstars associate coach program that was in place in 2018. Ray Sheffield and Joey Theriault, who were associate coaches last season, will continue on as assistant coaches. Garry Doré, the teams third associate coach, steps away from coaching to focus solely on his general manager role. Kennedy played 121 games in the AIHL from 2012 to 2018 where he recorded 96 points. The four new imports join American John Kennedy who will start his third season with the North Stars and is expecting to gain an Australian permanent residency in the coming months. Davis, like Kennedy is also working towards his permanent residency.
The Newcastle Herald has announced the Newcastle North Stars have signed former Central Coast Rhinos goaltender Dayne Davis for the upcoming season. They have also announced that John Kennedy will remain with the club and has since gained his permanent residency freeing up an import spot for 2015. John Kennedy won the Most Valuable Player award, Robert Starke was named the teams best forward, Ray Sheffield the most dedicated player and Matt Wetini was named the most improved player and won the Tony Huntly Award for Best Aussie Player, while assistant coach Joey Theriault won the Coaches’ Award.
The Adelaide Adrenaline’s Niko Suoraniemi, the Mustangs’ Jack Wolgemuth and Newcastle North Stars John Kennedy have been named as the nominees for the 2014 AIHL Defenceman of the Year Award.
The Melbourne Ice’s Jeremy Brown, the Thunder’s Jamie Woodman and the North Stars’ Hayden Sheard have been named as the nominees for the 2014 AIHL Rookie of the Year Award.
The Sydney Bears’ held their 2014 Team Awards night yesterday. Ben DiMarco won the most valuable player award, Sean Hamilton Steen was named the Best Forward, Spencer Austin the Best Defenceman, Jarrod Smith the Rookie of the Year and Daniel Palmkvist won the Chad Martin Award for Impact Player of the Year
