John Kennedy replaces Benjamin Breault as Perth Thunder head coach

Perth Thunder have appointed John Kennedy to the position of head coach, replacing Benjamin Breault who had been in the role since February 2020. Kennedy most recently served as head coach of the Australian Women’s Ice Hockey League’s Perth Inferno and is the former head coach of the Newcastle Northstars and the Western Australian state 15 & under team.

Breault will continue on with Perth as player. He leaves the coaching role with a record of 70 wins from 117 games and was named the Australian Ice Hockey League’s coach of the year in 2023 and 2025. At the time of his departure from the role, Perth Thunder sits fifth on the standings and have qualified for the upcoming 2026 Goodall Cup playoffs.
