2017-18 AJIHL player awards

The awards for the 2017-18 Australian Junior Ice Hockey League season were handed out following the end of the playoffs.

– Finals Most Valuable Player: Sam Hodic (Melbourne Glaciers)
– Best Defenceman: Zachary Boyle (Adelaide Generals)
– Best Goaltender: Jeremy Friederich (Adelaide Generals)
– Highest Point Scorer: Lyndon Lodge (Perth Sharks)

Australia U20 lose opener to Romania

The Australian men’s national under-20 team have lost their opening game of the 2016 IIHF Ice Hockey U20 World Championship Division II Group B tournament, losing to Romania 0-8. Forward Sam Hodic was named best Australian player of the match. In other games of the day Belgium beat China 5-0 and Spain defeated Serbia 4-1. After the end of the first round Australia sit last in the standings, trailing leaders Romania by three points. Australia take on Spain today in their second game of the tournament.

Australia U20 defeat Iceland and take bronze

The Australian men’s under-20 team have won their final game of the 2015 IIHF U20 World Championship Division II Group B tournament, defeating Iceland 5-1. The win sees Australia jump Belgium into third in the standings and take home the bronze medal. Sam Hodic was named best Australian player of the game, while Charlie Smart was awarded best goaltender of the tournament and best player of the Australian team for the tournament. In other games of the day Serbia defeated Belgium 3-2 in overtime and Croatia beat Spain 3-2 to win the gold medal.

Whalers and Glaciers rosters announced

Ice Hockey Victoria have announced the Melbourne Whalers and Melbourne Glaciers rosters for the upcoming 2014-15 Australian Junior Ice Hockey League season. They have also confirmed the coaches with Michael Flaherty and Jeremy Muir to coach the Whalers, and Doug Stevenson and Joseph Hughes to coach the Glaciers.
