The Australian women’s national team have defeated Iceland 3-2 in their final game of the 2016 IIHF Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship Division II Group B tournament, finishing first in the tournament standings and earn promotion to Division II Group A for 2017. Sari Lehmann was named best Australian player of the match and Alivia Del Basso was named best Australian player of the tournament, selected as the best forward and was the tournaments top scorer with 19 points. In other games of the day Mexico defeated New Zealand 5-2 and Spain beat Turkey 8-1. Turkey who finished the tournament in last place is relegated to the Division II Group B Qualification tournament for 2017.
