The Australian men’s national under-18 team have won their opening game of the 2017 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 World Championship Division II Group B tournament, defeating Iceland 5-2. Defenceman Arthur Wang was named best Australian player of the match. In other games of the day Spain defeated Belgium 7-1 and Serbia beat the Netherlands 3-2. After the end of the first round Australia sit in second place on the standings, trailing Spain on goal difference. Australia takes on Belgium today in their second game of the tournament. The tournament, which was originally scheduled to take place in Novi Sad, had to be moved to Belgrade due to problems with the cooling system.
