2019 World Championships: Australia finish third

The Australian men’s national team have lost 1-2 to Croatia in their final game of the 2019 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship Division II Group A tournament. Wehebe Darge was named best Australian player of the game and Rob Haselhurst was awarded best Australian player of the tournament. In other games of the day China beat Belgium 4-0 and Serbia defeated Spain 3-2 in a shootout. Australia finish the tournament in third place, one point behind the leaders Serbia and second placed Croatia. Serbia finishes first ahead of Croatia thanks to their head to head result and is promoted to Division I Group B for 2020. Belgium finishes the tournament in last place and are relegated to Division II Group B.

The Australian men’s national team have defeated China 3-2 in their fourth game of the 2019 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship Division II Group A tournament. Defenceman Brian Funes was named best Australian player of the game. In other games of the day Croatia beat Spain 4-3 in a shootout and Serbia defeated Belgium 6-3. After the fourth round Australia remain first on the standings with Serbia moving into second place. The teams have a rest day today and return on Monday where Australia take on Croatia for their final game of the tournament. The Australian men’s national under-18 team have lost 5-1 to Croatia in their final game of the 2019 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 World Championship Division II Group B. In other games of the day the China beat the Netherlands 3-2 and Serbia defeated Belgium 12-2. Australia finish the tournament in fifth place and will remain in Division II Group B for 2020.
