2023 Women’s U18 World Championships: Australia shuts out the Netherlands

The Australian women’s national under-18 team have defeated the Netherlands 4–0 in their second game of the 2023 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 Women’s World Championship Division II Group A tournament. Australia’s goals were scored by Natasha Dube, who picked up two, Molly Lukowiak and Elizabeth Marshall. The IIHF award for best Australian player of the match was given to goaltender Madison Smith who was also given the hardest worker award by the team. The Australian team named Courtney Mahoney their best offensive player of the game and Lily Roberts their best defensive player.

The other games of the day ended up in shootouts with Turkey defeating Mexico 3–2 and Latvia beating Great Britain 3–2. At the end of the second round Australia moves into first on the standings and are now a point clear of the second placed Latvia. The teams have a rest day today and return tomorrow where Australia will take on Mexico for their third game. The two teams recently met in an exhibition game prior to the tournament where Australia won 2–1 and last met at the World Championship level in 2017 where Australia earned a 5–0 shutout.
