Day 30 of the 2024 Australian Ice Hockey League regular season has finished with wins for Canberra Brave, Central Coast Rhinos, Sydney Bears, and Sydney Ice Dogs. In the Hellyer Conference, the Sydney Bears remain in first, three points ahead of the second placed Melbourne Ice. In the Rurak Conference, the Newcastle Northstars remain at the top of the standings, with their lead over Canberra Brave reduced from twelve to nine points. The Sydney Bears also continue to lead the league’s combined standings with the Melbourne Ice in second and the Perth Thunder in third. Competition resumes on 30 June with games in Central Coast, Melbourne, Newcastle, and Sydney.
Today’s game between the Melbourne Ice and Sydney Bears also served as the Canda Day Cup match which say the Sydney Bears wear a Canada Day themed jersey. The game also included a Teddy Bear Toss to help support the Alannah & Madeline Foundation and went on to raise $3,583. The match between the Adelaide Adrenaline and Sydney Ice Dogs meanwhile served as the annual Matt Clark Shield game. The game, which is part of their Puck Cancer round, is dedicated to former Warringah Bombers’ player Matt Clark who passed away due to leukaemia in 1995. As part of this year’s fundraising the Sydney Ice Dogs wore special edition jerseys which are being auctioned off to raise funds for Cure Cancer Australia.
