Day 34 of the 2024 Australian Ice Hockey League regular season has finished with wins for the Adelaide Adrenaline, Brisbane Lightning, Perth Thunder, and Sydney Ice Dogs. In the Hellyer Conference, the Sydney Bears lead at the top of the standings is increased to ten points following the three-point penalty handed out to the Melbourne Ice. In the Rurak Conference, the Newcastle Northstars remain at the top of the standings, nine points clear of the second placed Canberra Brave. The Sydney Bears also continue to lead the league’s combined standings with the Melbourne Ice in second and the Perth Thunder in third. Competition resumes on 14 July with games in Canberra, Perth, and Sydney.
Today’s game between the Adelaide Adrenaline and Newcastle Northstars also served as the Northstars’ NAIDOC Week game which saw them wearing a jersey featuring artwork by Baayanya By Nina. The jerseys were auctioned off during the game to raise funds for the local Indigenous community’s access to learning and playing ice hockey in Newcastle. The match between the Melbourne Mustangs and Perth Thunder meanwhile served as the Thunder’s NAIDOC Week game with the club wearing a jersey designed by Cassandra Edwards. The Thunder’s jerseys are being auctioned off to raise funds for the Yorgum Healing Services organisation.
