The Sydney Bears and Sydney Ice Dogs have announced that they have withdrawn from the 2025 Australian Ice Hockey League (AIHL) season due to the unavailability of Macquarie Ice Rink. The venue is set to undertake planned upgrades between 24 December 2024 and 31 December 2025, resulting in rink management advising the clubs that no ice time will be made available.
The upgrades were initially expected to run from April to May 2025 with both clubs looking at temporarily relocating to alternate venues. This was however ultimately deemed unviable due to a lack of ice availability and commercial constraints. Both clubs are expected to return for the 2026 AIHL season.
