2025 Men’s U18 World Championships: Australia defeats Bulgaria

The Australian men’s national under-18 team have defeated the Bulgarian men’s national under-18 team 7–3 in their third game of the 2025 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 World Championship Division II Group B tournament in Sofia, Bulgaria. Logan Brodie and Ruben Nalos led the scoring for Australia with two goals each, followed by Hugo Arps, Tobie Gilchrist, and Benjamin Shearer with one apiece. The goals from Brodie, Gilchrist, and Shearer were also their first in international competition. The IIHF award for best Australian player of the match was given to defenceman Benjamin Shearer. The result is an improvement compared to the last meeting between the two teams in 2024 where Australia won 3–1.

In the other games of the day, Chinese Taipei defeated Serbia 4–2 and Spain beat Belgium 3–1. At the end of the third round, Australia has moved up to second on the standings and Spain continues to lead the competition with nine points. The teams have a rest day today and return on 22 March where Australia will take on Spain. The two teams last met at the 2024 World Championships where Australia lost 1–7.
