2025 Men’s U18 World Championships: Australia loses to Spain

The Australian men’s national under-18 team have lost 2–3 in overtime to the Spanish men’s national under-18 team in their fourth game of the 2025 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 World Championship Division II Group B tournament in Sofia, Bulgaria. Australia’s two goals were scored by Colby Shumak which were also his first in international competition. Shumak also received the IIHF award for best Australian player of the match. The result is an improvement compared to the last meeting between the two teams in 2024 where Australia lost 1–7.

In the other games of the day, Bulgaria defeated Chinese Taipei 3–2 in overtime and Serbia beat Belgium 4–3. At the end of the fourth round, Australia remains in second on the standings, four points behind the first placed Spain. Australia takes on Chinese Taipei today for their final game of the tournament. The two teams last met at the 2024 World Championships where Australia lost 4–5.
