Macquarie Ice Rink has reopened after undergoing extensive renovations for most of 2025. The renovations include new boards, glass, and a jumbotron, an increase in seating capacity, and updates to the changerooms and lighting.

The closure of the venue forced the relocation of the Sydney Sirens in the second half of the 2024–25 Australian Women’s Ice Hockey League (AWIHL) season, and required the Sydney Bears and Sydney Ice Dogs to sit out the 2025 Australian Ice Hockey League (AIHL) season.

While the rink has officially reopened, it remains unavailable for ice hockey activities. The Sydney Sirens were expected to return to Macquarie at the start of December but were forced to relocate to Erina Ice Arena and Hunter Ice Skating Stadium. Ice hockey is expected to return for the winter season, with the Sydney Bears and Sydney Ice Dogs returning for the 2026 AIHL season.
