Melbourne Ice have signed Canadian defenceman John Aonso for the remainder of the 2026 Australian Ice Hockey League (AIHL) season. Aonso previously played for Melbourne in 2024 where he recorded two goals and 17 assists from 28 games. Since leaving Melbourne, he has spent the last two seasons playing in the SPHL. In 2025–26, Aonso started the season off with the Fayetteville Marksmen, recording one point from 33 games, before moving across to the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs where he competed in 29 games and recorded eleven points.
