With the 2025–26 season having finished in the Northern Hemisphere we thought we would take a brief look at the Australian players who were competing overseas. Today is Part 8 of 11 featuring Australians in Canada. The information is collected from Elite Prospects and so might not be fully comprehensive.
Zac Mirfin (GLPHLV profile): Third season with the Académie Ste-Cécile Stallions. Playing in the Great Lake Prep Hockey League’s Varsity Division, Mirfin recorded a save percentage of 0.837 and a goals against average of 5.40 across three games.
Mickey Nottle (CSSHL profile): Second season with the Canadian International Hockey Academy (CIHA). Playing on their Voyageurs U18 Prep team in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League’s U18 Prep East Division, Nottle recorded two assists from five games. He also made four appearances for their Voyageurs U18 Varsity team in U18 AAA competition, recording two assists. Heading into 2026–27, he has re-signed with CIHA for a third season.
Daniel O’Handley (KIJHL profile): Second season with the Creston Valley Thunder Cats. Playing in the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League, O’Handley recorded three goals and eight assists from 38 games. Heading into 2026–27, he has signed with the University of Michigan-Flint to play in the American Collegiate Hockey Association.
Morris O’Handley (Portage College profile): First season in Canada since 2023–24, having spent 2024–25 in the United States. Playing for Portage College in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference, O’Handley competed in 28 games.
Zachary Okabe (AHL profile, ECHL profile): First season in Canada since 2018–19, having spent the last six seasons in the United States. Okabe made a brief two game appearance in the American Hockey League for the Abbotsford Canucks. He then returned to the United States to rejoin the Kalamazoo Wings of the ECHL, where he spent 2024–25, recording 19 goals and 37 assists from 65 games. Heading into 2026–27, Okabe has signed with HC Thurgau to play in the Swiss League.
