The Australian women’s team have lost their opening game of the 2015 IIHF Women’s World Championship Division II Group tournament, losing to Spain 1-4. Michelle Coonan was named best Australian player of the match. In other games of the day Iceland defeated Mexico 2-1 following a shootout and Slovenia beat Belgium 13-2. After the opening game of the tournament Australia is sitting in fifth place, three points behind leaders Slovenia and Spain. Australia take on Iceland today in their second game of the tournament.
