Day 9 of the 2024 Australian Ice Hockey League regular season has finished with wins for the Brisbane Lightning, Newcastle Northstars, Perth Thunder, and Sydney Bears. The conference standings remained unchanged after today’s games with the Melbourne Ice and Newcastle Northstars continuing to lead the Hellyer and Rurak Conferences respectively. The Melbourne Ice also maintain their position at the top of the league’s combined standings, edging out the second placed Perth Thunder on win percentage. Competition resumes tomorrow with games in Brisbane, Melbourne, and Newcastle.
Today’s games in Melbourne and Perth also served as ANZAC Day charity matches. In Melbourne, the Mustangs auctioned three ANZAC themed jerseys during their game against the Sydney Bears. While in Perth, the Thunder wore ANZAC themed jerseys during their game against the Adelaide Adrenaline which were auctioned off to raise funds for the Our Veterans Forge organisation. The 31 Perth Thunder jerseys went on to raise a total of $8,141.00.
