2017 U20 World Championships: Australia relegated

The Australian men’s national under-20 team have lost their final game of the 2017 IIHF Ice Hockey U20 World Championship Division II Group B tournament, losing to Belgium 1-5. Forward Lynden Lodge was named best Australian player of the match, his second for the competition, and goaltender Alex Tetreault was named best Australian player of the tournament. In other games of the day Serbia defeated Mexico 7-4 and South Korea beat Spain 5-3. Australia finishes the tournament in last place and as a result are relegated to Division III for the 2018 World Championships. South Korea, who won the tournament, are promoted to Division II Group A for 2018.

2017 U20 World Championships: Australia lose to Serbia

The Australian men’s national under-20 team have lost their fourth game of the 2017 IIHF Ice Hockey U20 World Championship Division II Group B tournament, losing to Serbia 0-6. Forward Ethan Cornford was named best Australian player of the match. In other games of the day South Korea defeated Mexico 12-0 and Spain beat Belgium 6-3. After the end of the fourth round Australia remain in last place on the standings, eleven points behind the leaders Spain. The teams have a rest day today and return on Friday with Australia taking on Belgium in their final game of the tournament.

Australian U20 lose to HC DDM Ceske Budejovice U20

The Australian men’s under-20 team have lost to HC DDM Ceske Budejovice U20 5-6 in an exhibition game yesterday in the Czech Republic. The Australian’s held a 4-1 lead during the third period however let the game tie up 5-5 before the Czechs converted a penalty shot to win 6-5 in regular time. The team is currently in the Czech Republic on a training camp before the start of the 2017 IIHF Ice Hockey U20 World Championship Division II Group B tournament in Logrono, Spain which begins on 7 January. The Australian’s have one more exhibition game against HC Litomerice U20 before the end of the training camp.
