The Australian men’s national under-18 team have lost their first game of the 2017 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 World Championship Division II Group B tournament, losing to the Netherlands 1-2. Forward Michael Riley was named best Australian player of the match after scoring the teams only goal. In other games of the day Spain defeated Iceland 7-0 and Serbia beat Belgium 3-1. After the end of the fourth round Australia move back into second place on the standings, trailing Spain on goal difference. Australia takes on Serbia today in their final game of the tournament.
