The Australian Women’s national under-18 team have lost their opening game of the 2018 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 Women’s World Championship Division I Group B tournament, losing to France 1-6. Goaltender Imogen Perry was named best Australian player of the match. In other games of the day Denmark defeated Great Britain 6-1 and Poland beat China 5-1. France lead the standings after the first round with Australia sitting in last place. Australia takes on hosts Poland today for their second game of the tournament. The last time these two teams met was at the 2016 Division I Qualification tournament where Australia lost 0-11.
