2020 U20 World Championships: Australia win semifinal

The Australian men’s national under-20 team have defeated Mexico 8-3 in their semifinal of the 2020 IIHF Ice Hockey U20 World Championship Division III tournament. Captain Kenshin Hayashi scored four goals and was named best Australian player of the match. In other games of the day Iceland defeated Turkey 5-2 in the second semifinal, while in the placement round Bulgaria beat Chinese Taipei 8-1 and New Zealand picked up a 2-1 win over South Africa. Australia and Iceland will now play for gold and promotion to Division II Group B. The last time these two teams met was at the 2019 World Championships where Australia lost 4-5 in overtime. In the other upcoming games Turkey and Mexico will playoff for bronze, Bulgaria and New Zealand compete for fifth and South Africa and Chinese Taipei play for seventh place.
