2020 Women’s World Championships: Australia win opener

The Australian women’s national team have won their opening game of the 2020 IIHF Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship Division II Group B tournament, defeating Iceland 6-1. Forward Shona Green scored two goals and was named best Australian player of the match. In other games of the day Turkey defeated Ukraine 3-2 in overtime and New Zealand beat Croatia 11-1. At the end of the first round Australia sit second in the standings trailing New Zealand on goal difference. Australia take on Turkey today for their second game of the tournament. The last time these two team met was at the 2016 World Championships where Australia won 12-0.
