The Australian men’s national team have defeated the Israel men’s national team 7–1 in their fourth game of the 2023 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship Division II Group A tournament in Madrid, Spain. Mackenzie Caruana led the team in scoring with three goals followed by Robert Malloy with two and John Kennedy and Vadim Virjassov with one each. Kennedy’s goal was also his first in international competition. The IIHF award for best Australian player of the match was given to forward Mackenzie Caruana.
In the other games of the day Georgia defeated Croatia 6–0 and Spain beat Iceland 7–4. At the end of the fourth round Australia remains in fifth place on the standings while Spain has moved back into first with twelve points. Australia takes on Georgia today for their final game of the competition. This will be the first meeting between the two teams with Georgia having previously competed in the lower levels of the World Championships.
