2023 AIHL season: 13 August results and standings

Day 41 of the 2023 Australian Ice Hockey League regular season has finished with wins for the Newcastle Northstars and Perth Thunder. Following today’s results, the CBR Brave finish first on the league’s combined standings and claim the 2023 H Newman Reid Trophy. The regular season title is the CBR Brave’s fourth overall, and fourth in a row, having won their first in 2018. There was one final movement in the combined standings with the Newcastle Northstars moving up into third, edging out the now fourth placed Melbourne Mustangs by one point. The CBR Brave also claim the Rurak Conference title while the Sydney Bears claim the Hellyer Conference title.

Competition now moves onto the Goodall Cup playoffs with the play-in round set for 19 and 20 August. In the first game the Newcastle Northstars host the Perth Thunder at the Hunter Ice Skating Stadium on 19 August. The second game will see the Brisbane Lightning travel to Melbourne on 20 August to take on the Melbourne Mustangs at the O’Brien Icehouse. The winners of the play-in round will then advance to the semifinal round on 26 August where they will either play the CBR Brave or Sydney Bears.
