2024 Men’s U18 World Championships: Australia defeats Israel

The Australian men’s national under-18 team have defeated the Israeli men’s national under-18 team 12–4 in their second game of the 2024 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 World Championship Division II Group B tournament in Puigcerda, Spain. Jed Lake led the team in scoring with three goals followed by Bodie Jerome, Ivan Kuleshov and Lachlan Sucher with two each, and Luka Ouimette, Tyrone Oxlade and Benjamin Warden with one each. Ouimette’s, Oxlade’s and Warden’s goals were also their first in international competition. The IIHF award for best Australian player of the match was given to forward Jed Lake.

In the other games of the day China defeated Chinese Taipei 5–3 and Bulgaria beat Spain 5–4 in overtime. At the end of the second round Australia has moved up to fourth on the standings. China meanwhile now leads the tournament with six points, moving up from second, Bulgaria moves from third to second and Spain drops from first to third. At the other end of the standings Israel drops from fourth to sixth and Chinese Taipei moves up one place from sixth to fifth. The teams have a rest day today and return on 20 March where Australia will take on Spain for their third game of the competition. The two teams last met at the 2017 World Championships where Australia won 4–1.
