2024 Women’s World Championships: Australia shuts outs New Zealand

The Australian women’s national team have defeated the New Zealand women’s national team 4–0 in their second game of the 2024 IIHF Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship Division II Group B tournament in Istanbul, Turkey. Nikki Sharp led the team in scoring with two goals followed by Phoebe Roberts and Sara Sammons who picked up one each. Roberts’ goal was also her first at the senior World Championship level. The IIHF award for best Australian player of the match was given to goaltender Olivia Last.

In the other games of the day North Korea shutout South Africa 14–0 and Hong Kong defeated Turkey 2–0. At the end of the second round Australia remains second on the standings. They now trail North Korea on goal difference, with North Korea switching places from third to first with Hong Kong. The teams have a rest day today and return on 4 April where Australia will take on Hong Kong for their third game of the competition. This will also mark the first time the two teams have come head-to-head at the World Championships.
