2024 Women’s World Championships: Australia loses to North Korea and finishes second

The Australian women’s national team have lost 1–2 following a shootout to the North Korean women’s national team in their final game of the 2024 IIHF Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship Division II Group B tournament in Istanbul, Turkey. Forward Nikki Sharp recorded Australia’s only goal of the game and received the IIHF award for best Australian player of the match.

In the other games of the day New Zealand defeated Hong Kong 2–1 and Turkey beat South Africa 8–1. Australia finishes the tournament in second place with thirteen points from five games. North Korea finishes in first and earns promotion back to Division II Group A for 2025, while South Africa comes in last and is relegated to Division III Group A. The IIHF award for best defender and best Australian player of the tournament was given to defender Matilda Pethrick.
