2024 Men’s World Championships: Australia defeats Iceland

The Australia men’s national team have defeated the Iceland men’s national team 3–2 in their fourth game of the 2024 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship Division II Group A tournament in Belgrade, Serbia. Australia’s goals were scored by Ethan Hawes, Kieren Webster, and Jamie Woodman with Hawes’s being his first at the senior World Championship level. The IIHF award for best Australian player of the match was given to forward Vadim Virjassov.

In the other games of the day Croatia defeated Israel 5–1 and Serbia beat the United Arab Emirates 5–2. At the end of the fourth round Australia has moved back up to fourth place on the standings, pushing Israel down to fifth. Croatia meanwhile continues to lead the tournament, edging out Serbia on goal difference. The teams have a rest day today and return on 27 April where Australia will take on the United Arab Emirates for their final game of the tournament. This will be the first meeting between the two teams with the United Arab Emirates having previously competed in the lower levels of the World Championships.
