Ice Hockey Australia has announced the departure of the coaches and management from the Australia women’s national team. Head coach Marcus Wong, assistant coach Terry Kiliwnik, and equipment manager Josef Rezek all depart after two years in their respective roles. Jaden Pine-Murphy leaves the assistant coach role after three years and leaves the team after nine years, having previously served as the equipment manager. Alicia Kelly departs after three years in her current stint as general manager, a position she had previously held between 2018 and 2020.
The reason for the departures wasn’t explicitly stated in the announcement though it appears to be linked to the recent changes in national team strategies. The changes outlined by Ice Hockey Australia include the reduction in funding, the re-establishment of selection panels, the shortening of pre-tournament training camps, and the reduction to the size of the team staff.
The changes follow the reporting of significant losses in 2025 financial statements. The losses, which were initially found to be understated, have now been reported to be $377,000. Ice Hockey Australia has also announced that they estimate losses for the 2026 financial year to be between $150,000 and $200,000.
