The Australian women’s national team have won their first game of the 2016 IIHF Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship Division II Group B tournament, defeating Turkey 12-0. Forward Alivia Del Basso was named best Australian player of the match. In other games of the day Iceland defeated New Zealand 8-2 and Spain beat Mexico 3-0. After the end of the second round Australia is sitting in third place, trailing the leaders Spain by two points. The teams now have a rest day today and return to the ice on Thursday with Australia taking on New Zealand in their third game of the tournament.
