The final two games of the round-robin have finished with wins for the Newcastle North Stars and the Sydney Ice Dogs. Following their win on Saturday the North Stars qualified for the final against the Sydney Bears who had already locked in their place last week.
The Sydney Bears are three from three after in the 2015 Wilson Cup after defeating the Newcastle North Stars 6-0 at the Penrith Ice Palace. Next week features the final two games of the round-robin with the North Stars hosting the Bears on the 11th and then the Sydney Ice Dogs on the 12th.

The Sydney Bears have won their second game of the Wilson Cup defeating the Sydney Ice Dogs 3-2 at the Liverpool Catholic Club Ice Rink. The second game of the weekend saw the Ice Dogs travel to Newcastle to take on the North Stars. The Ice Dogs lost 1-5, bringing up their third loss of the tournament and the North Stars first win.
The Sydney Bears have defeated the Sydney Ice Dogs 5-3 in Game 1 of the 2015 Wilson Cup at the Penrith Ice Palace. Competition resumes on the 28th with the Ice Dogs hosting the Bears in Liverpool and then North Stars take on the Ice Dogs in Newcastle on the 29th.
The 2015 Wilson Cup is scheduled to begin on 15 March with the Sydney Bears taking on the Sydney Ice Dogs at the Penrith Ice Arena. The Wilson Cup, founded in 2007, involves the New South Wales teams of the Australian Ice Hockey League and was won last year by the Sydney Ice Dogs. The 2015 edition will be a double round-robin schedule, followed by a final between the two highest ranked teams. This change in format increases the number of games from four in 2014’s single round-robin tournament to seven.
Ticket prices for the tournament have been set at $10 for adults, $5 for children and $25 for the family, with prices to be the same at each venue.
The Sydney Ice Dogs have defeated the Newcastle North Stars 4-2 in the final of the 2014 Wilson Cup. The Ice Dogs took a 3-0 lead at the end of the first but the North Stars fought back and by the end of the second period their lead had been reduced with the scores sitting at 3-2. The Ice Dogs scored the only goal of the third period and the game finished 4-2 with the Ice Dogs winning their first Wilson Cup title.
The Sydney Ice Dogs have defeated the Sydney Bears 8-1 in Game three of the 2014 Wilson Cup. This completes the round robin event with the Ice Dogs topping the standings with five points. They will now play the Newcastle North Stars in the final. The game is scheduled to kick off next Saturday at 17:45 at the Sydney Ice Arena.

The Sydney Ice Dogs have won game two of the 2014 Wilson Cup, defeating the Newcastle North Stars 5-4 in a shootout at the Erina Ice Arena. The first period ended with the score tied at one a piece with Simon Barg scoring for the Ice Dogs and Patrick Nadin scoring off an assist from Matt Wettini. In the second period the North Stars put on two goals while the Ice Dogs managed to get only one through allowing the North Stars to go into the break with the lead. At the end of the third period the score was tied at four all and the game was forced into a shootout. It would take 15 shots each for the game to be decided, the Ice Dogs scored on their first attempt while the North Stars leveled on their second attempt. The teams then failed to convert until the ninth round of the shootout where both teams got one past the goalie. Both teams again scored in the fourteenth round keeping the game tied. The Game went into the fifteenth round with the North Stars missing their shot on goal, the Ice Dogs then got their attempt past North Stars goalie Josh Broekman to win the game.
The Newcastle North Stars have taken out the first of the 2014 Wilson Cup defeating the Sydney Bears 4-3 in a shooutout at the Hunter Ice Skating Stadium in Newcastle. The Bears opened the scoring during the second period with a power play goal from Michael Schlamp. However the North Stars quickly leveled the game with a goal from Matt Taylor and then took the lead with Tim Stanger scoring with help from Nick Quirk, taking the score to 2-1. Mat Lindsay opened the scoring in the third period for the North Stars taking the score to 3-1. Down two goals the Bears responded with a goal from Cameron Todd and then leveled the game with a goal from Lee Turner. The game finished 3-3 in regular time and went to a shootout with Adam Geric scoring the game winning goal.
Game Two is set for the 22 March and will see the North Stars come up against the Sydney Ice Dogs at the Erina Ice Arena.
Following on from the announcement that the Wilson Cup will be returning in March, the full schedule for the tournament has been released. The tournament will involve the three New South Wales AIHL teams with each team playing the other once, before the top two face off in the final. Of note Game Two will be held at the Erina Ice Arena, home of the Central Coast Rhinos. The Rhinos who are absent from this edition of the tournament won the last Wilson Cup back in 2009.
