2019 Women’s Championships: Australia lose to Great Britain

The Australian women’s national team have lost 1-2 to Great Britain in their opening game of the 2019 IIHF Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship Division II Group A tournament. Goaltender Michelle Coonan was named best Australian player of the match. In other games of the day Spain beat Slovenia 4-3 in a shootout and Mexico defeated North Korea 4-2. After the first round Australia sit fifth on the standings while Mexico leads the competition. The teams have a rest day today and return on Thursday where Australia take on North Korea. The last time these two teams met was at the 2018 World Championships Division II Group A tournament where North Korea won 3-1.

2018 Women’s World Championship: Australia lose to Great Britain

The Australian women’s national team have lost 1-5 to Great Britain in their opening game of the 2018 IIHF Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship Division II Group A tournament. Goaltender Michelle Coonan was named best Australian player of the match. In other games of the day the Netherlands defeated North Korea 5-2 and Slovenia beat Mexico 6-0. Slovenia lead the standings after the first round with Australia sitting in fifth place. Australia take on Mexico today for their second game of the tournament. The last time these two teams met was at the 2016 World Championship Division II Group B tournament where Australia lost 1-2 after a shootout.

2017 Women’s World Championships: Australia relegated

The Australian women’s national team have lost to Great Britain 3-5 in their final game of the 2017 IIHF Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship Division II Group A tournament. Shona Powell was named best Australian player of the match and Amelia Matheson was named best Australian player of the tournament. In other games of the day North Korea defeated Slovenia 4-2 and South Korea beat the Netherlands 2-0. Australia finish the tournament in last place and are relegated to Division II Group B for 2018, while South Korea finished in first place and are promoted to Division I Group B.
