2019 Women’s Championships: Australia lose to Great Britain

The Australian women’s national team have lost 1-2 to Great Britain in their opening game of the 2019 IIHF Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship Division II Group A tournament. Goaltender Michelle Coonan was named best Australian player of the match. In other games of the day Spain beat Slovenia 4-3 in a shootout and Mexico defeated North Korea 4-2. After the first round Australia sit fifth on the standings while Mexico leads the competition. The teams have a rest day today and return on Thursday where Australia take on North Korea. The last time these two teams met was at the 2018 World Championships Division II Group A tournament where North Korea won 3-1.
