Australia U20 lose opener to Romania

The Australian men’s national under-20 team have lost their opening game of the 2016 IIHF Ice Hockey U20 World Championship Division II Group B tournament, losing to Romania 0–8. Forward Sam Hodic was named best Australian player of the match. In other games of the day Belgium beat China 5–0 and Spain defeated Serbia 4–1. After the end of the first round Australia sit last in the standings, trailing leaders Romania by three points. Australia takes on Spain today in their second game of the tournament.
