2018 Women’s World Championship: Australia lose to Great Britain

The Australian women’s national team have lost 1-5 to Great Britain in their opening game of the 2018 IIHF Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship Division II Group A tournament. Goaltender Michelle Coonan was named best Australian player of the match. In other games of the day the Netherlands defeated North Korea 5-2 and Slovenia beat Mexico 6-0. Slovenia leads the standings after the first round with Australia sitting in fifth place. Australia takes on Mexico today for their second game of the tournament. The last time these two teams met was at the 2016 World Championship Division II Group B tournament where Australia lost 1-2 after a shootout.
